In the third chapel on the left, Alphonse Ratisbonne is said to have received an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary on 20 January 1842. He immediately converted to Christianity from Judaism and later founded the Congregation of Our Lady of Sion. The chapel was reconstructed in 1950 by architect Marcello Piacentini in commemoration of that visitation.
